First dyed Sock Yarn

June 1, 2011 at 12:56 pm » Hille

This is my first attempt to hand dye sock yarn!

I used undyed hanks (75% virgin wool 25% nylon) from Schoppel Wolle. The other yarn qualities appeal to me as well, I think I will give them a try next time!

The textile colours come from Finland (EMO Textile Colours – see for example German online shop Decolorist). The results are great, you need very little colour to produce saturated hues, for pastels naturally even less so I think the colours are really efficient! Of course you can blend whatever you like to reach more hues.

Best for me is that you can use the dye in a “cold process” and fix it later for some minutes in the microwave. Very uncomplicated and it really makes fun!

Guerilla Knitting in Amsterdam

May 29, 2011 at 3:08 pm » Hille

I spent some time in Amsterdam this month. In addition to lots of bicycles, I found many pieces of guerilla knitting distributed all over the town.

I hadn´t my camera with me all the time, so this is just a very small impression of Amsterdam´s knitted street art.

I think I will start as well some guerilla knitting – somewhere in my very rural area, there surely is a place waiting to be embellished by me! The time is just right for this year´s (and first ever) International Yarn Bombing Day on June 11th. So why not join?

Knitting is a Necessity of Life

At least so it seems to me and that´s why I chose this as a motto for my first knitting, crafting, reading, living… blog!

A very warm welcome to all of you who found their way to me!
